A Message from the President
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas (BCBSTX) has been around for a long time. For more than 80 years, we have provided health care coverage to Texans across the Lone Star State. As in years past, we continue to fight for quality, affordable care and advocate for reasonable costs in our health care community. As a customer-owned company, we have a responsibility to serve as good stewards of our current and future members’ health care dollars – a philosophy that drives our organization’s decision-making.
But it’s not just about providing health care coverage. It’s about championing wellness within the communities we serve and improving public health. One of my favorite things about working at BCBSTX is the fact that our employees live out our purpose on a daily basis – doing everything in their power to stand with our members in sickness and in health. It’s a powerful feeling to see my colleagues step up to the plate and personally contribute to the health of Texans across the state. From the border city of El Paso to the towering buildings of the DFW metroplex, our employees reside and volunteer in the same communities where we do business.
At the end of the day, our employee reach can only go so far. That’s why we rely on the power of community partnerships, which take these efforts to a whole new level. Through our community investments we are privileged to empower local organizations to help reduce health disparities and promote healthy behaviors.
The partners you’ll see featured throughout this report are the real heroes of health, and we are grateful for their commitment to Texas.
A Message from Marathon Kids
BCBSTX continues to make an unwavering financial commitment year after year, to ensure Marathon Kids is able to freely provide our evidence-based physical activity and healthy lifestyle programming to elementary and middle schools in Texas. This commitment speaks to their deep understanding of what is required, not only to cure chronic disease, but also prevent it. BCBSTX’s ongoing contribution is proof of their confidence in our programming, Texas schools’ network and the fine health and physical educators who coach our Marathon Kids to greater health and achievement. Together, we can create a happier and healthier Texas.
